Medical Universities/Colleges in Malaysia usually offer a 5-year degree for prospective doctors. For newly graduated Malaysian students, it is obligatory to do a minimum of 2 years of horsemanship (Internship) in governmental hospitals that combine service and training roles. An internship may be longer up to 6 years at the discretion of each trainee supervisor. According to section 40 of the Malaysian Medical Act 1971, At the end of their internship and upon being given full registration as a doctor, every practitioner has to serve a at least continuous episode of 2 years within the public services.
